We started in April 2014, following the closure of long standing Marlborough firm TH Barnes & Co., when John Tovey (Former TH Barnes Construction Manager) teamed up with Justin Candish of Scott Construction Ltd (Nelson). Together they seized the opportunity to keep key staff from the skilled and experienced TH Barnes team together, adding the backing and resources of the highly successful Scott Group, to create Scott Construction Marlborough Limited.
We’ve quickly become an industry leader in the region, winning contracts for landmark projects such as the Picton Library and the new wing of Chateau Marlborough. Earthquake strengthening has been a huge part of our workload over the last few years. We’ve completed major works at PORSE house and Wairau Hospital, while the complex task of strengthening Stadium 2000 is ongoing.
Our ability to share and leverage our relationships, resources and experience across the Scott Group adds to our strength. We are a progressive company with a focus on long term growth. We want to make a positive contribution to our industry and our region. We currently employ over 30 full time staff on sites across the Marlborough region, supported by a small but efficient team in our Blenheim office.

Marlborough is a great place to live. Framed by the Wither Hills and Richmond Ranges, Blenheim is the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds and Nelson Lakes National Park.
Marlborough is a great place to raise a family - the range of activities, opportunities and facilities here allows kids to thrive. Our schools are closely linked to their communities and we have a new purpose built secondary school in development. The average house price is still under $400,000, so if you’re moving from the city you’ll be amazed at what you can buy.
Also, if you’re keen on Craft Beer we’ve got several top notch local breweries in operation – complementing the fabulous wineries we’re already renowned for.

We need an experienced all-rounder to be our sole QS, from tendering through to preparing the final account. The Marlborough market provides a diverse range of projects of varying size and nature, so the full array of QS skills and attributes are required.
You need to be flexible as you interchange between the different models of procurement and project delivery that provincial NZ offers. You need to be an adept juggler of many things at various stages of their life cycle. Additional QS support, resource and guidance may be provided from our Nelson team from time to time for larger projects, but essentially this is a stand alone role. Strong business acumen and financial skills are vital to contribute to our success.
We would prefer you to have at least 10 years experience with a commercial main contractor and hold a NZ QS tertiary qualification. We use Buildsoft, and expect you to have a detailed and thorough understanding of the Building Code, Construction Contracts Act and NZS 3604.
A city equivalent salary and benefits package is available for the right person.
